Eliminated? You'll be sorry...

If you haven't heard the news by now then make sure you're sitting down...Fictionist did not advance to the final round of the Rolling Stone cover contest. And you know what? It's OKAY!

Admittedly, we were a bit bummed, mainly because we wanted to go to Bonnaroo. I wanted to watch the band on a big festival stage and see them just kill it. But we'll have to wait till next year :). Initially, we were confused because by all visible metrics on the contest website, Fictionist was clearly in second place. But apparently, the Canadian Prime Minister endorsed the Sheepdogs and that means a bunch of patriotic Canadians who don't have facebook accounts decided to vote (weird? yes.).

It's hard to compete with the Canadian Prime Minister, even though Donny Osmond comes close right?

About an hour after we found out we didn't make it, we got a call from the executives at Atlantic Records saying "we still want to work with you!" So where do we go form here? Well, either Atlantic Records exercises their option to sign the band before the end of the option deadline of June 30, or we get to shop the band around to other labels and hopefully get an even better deal!

In hindsight, we feel being eliminated was the very best thing for the band. It will force Atlantic to choose whether or not they want to work with Fictionist this June instead of November. We are ready to get going and don't want to wait around for them to decide our future. Also, I've noticed the only 2 bands left in the competition are the ones who were willing to take their clothes off for the Rolling Stone cover shoot. We weren't willing to go there anyway - and isn't it supposed to be about the music? Lame.

We are in good hands and exciting things are on the horizon. The contest only launched the band in a way we could not have done on our own so fast. They quadrupled their facebook community, played their highest paying gigs to date, sold a lot of albums/t-shirts/downloads, and wrote some amazing songs. In all, it was a fabulous experience that will lead to fabulous things.

Thank you for all your support and for enduring my pleas to vote - your support means so much.

  1. We were so disappointed that the band lost. But I'm so glad to things that good things are happening. Like you said, this is probably a better situation for the band overall. I'm excited to hear what ends up happening over the next few weeks!

  2. Thanks for this post. . . it's a great summary of how things transpired, and like you said, will probably be the best in the long run. No matter what, Fictionist is awesome. Also, as the "wife behind the scenes" you have done a fabulous job. You and Stu are a great team.
