Our decision to go to Nice was driven primarily by Stuart - who wanted nothing more than to see the coast of France. I had never been there either - so it was fun to find a stop that was new for both of us.
Nice was warm and beautiful. The coast is gorgeous and has everything you'd expect of a "beach town in France." We loved it. We finally took some time to just relax and enjoy our surroundings. We read books on the beach, swam in the ocean, slept in, ate late dinners, walked and walked, saw some art, and just explored. We rode a bus along the jagged coast hills and windy roads to Monaco - to see the real Monte Carlo. It was just as you'd expect it to be- VERY ritzy. We felt out of place the whole time. While in Monaco, we went to a sandy beach and swam in the ocean. We had to try very hard to find a beach with only one or two topless women. (Why is it that the women who choose to go topless are exactly the women who should cover up?)
I really loved Nice - my camera battery died on our first day and while I regret the pictures that were not taken, I am also glad I got out from behind the camera lens and just experienced the last few days of a perfect vacation. We would love to make it back to Nice some time in our life.
