The Nursery and The Countdown

I have had fun, maybe too much fun, putting together baby's nursery. It's been a nice distraction during these last few months where pregnancy starts to drag a little bit and begins to feel just really...long. As soon as we found out our baby was a he, I began planning. We painted the walls a light blue-gray. It's a nice peaceful color. I also had a vision of a simple, tasteful, and yet still a bit baby-ish decor (can all these things exist?). Happily, I feel like I achieved just what I was going for.

I had a lot of help from my mom - the master seamstress. She made the crib bedding and helped trim the curtains, which are from Ikea. The glider was a splurge and it was worth it. It's so comfy and reclines to nearly horizontal for long nights up with the baby (but of course, I'm planning on our baby being perfect and sleeping through the night right away :) - this is just "in case" :) ). The white dresser was a hand-me-down from my sister's old room, but luckily, matches perfectly. And we found the low-profile crib for a great deal on Amazon.

I found these pictures at a local craft market and I felt like they were perfect for our little boy's room. The whale is an infamous gift from my sister. She gave it to me at my baby shower and before I opened it, she said, "I hope you like this. It just reminded me of you." That introduction was quite hilarious when I proceeded to open a gift of a whale. I thought, "Look, I know I'm huge, but a whale?!?" We had a good laugh - luckily I was in a good mood :). In truth, it's a whimsical and fun addition to the room and I love it. She also let me know that whales are like the new "in" thing so baby is already hip.

We also added an homage to Daddy with a cool Fictionist print a fan drew of the band. The colors went perfectly in the room - and hey, why the heck not? I also love the diaper changing station. That desk is a built-in in our room and lends itself perfectly for the dirty deeds.

One more close up of the awesome crib bedding and baby's new friends - all gifts from his grandmas.

We used the remainder of my sister's hand-me-down kid furniture as make-shift closet organizers. It actually works quite well, and as you can see, this kid is spoiled and organized (okay, maybe his mother is just OCD). He is already well-dressed and well stocked from birth till college :)  - thanks to the kindness and generosity of so many friends and family. We've had several baby showers and though I did my best to turn them down, people are just so lovely. Thank you everyone who helped us furnish baby's room and wardrobe.

So...now all we need is the little man. He has 16 days until he's "due." I've made a small amount of progress at about 1.5 cm dilated and 70% effaced. We'll see what happens. However, he can't come until after next week because I still have to work and there are a few important meetings I need to attend. After the 13th, he's free to make his grand entrance into this world.

I look forward to spending a lot of time in this nursery with my little baby. I am just so excited to welcome him home. We've waited and prepared for this day for so long, it's just so surreal it's around the corner. Wish me luck!!!
